Matinee performance @ The Royal Festival Hall

As traditional as Christmas Pudding and Brandy Butter, the pomp and splendour of a grand Christmas Gala at The Royal Festival Hall will set you up for a truly festive season.

A traditional concert with a joyful selection of seasonal classics and glorious Christmas carols performed by the renowned Philharmonia Orchestra, conducted by David Hill and featuring The Bach Choir, with Mary Bevan as soprano.

Favourites include – O Holy Night (Adam); In the bleak midwinter (Darke); The Twelve Days of Christmas (Rutter); Ave Maria (Shubert) and Opening chorus from Christmas Oratorio (JS Bach)

Carols for all will include – O Little Town of Bethlehem; O Come all ye Faithful; Hark! the Herald Angels Sing; While Shepherds Watched; The First Nowell; Good King Wenceslas

This year sees our first visit to the Royal Festival Hall but gives us a production from the same company that brought us our Christmas Classics at the Royal Albert Hall in 2016 and 2017.

With the matinee performance starting at 3pm we will leave Dorking at 10.30am with a view to arriving in London at about midday. This will give people the chance to grab a bite to eat and to enjoy the Christmas markets which are traditionally held on the Southbank each year, right outside the Royal Festival Hall. Lunch could be taken in the Skylon restaurant within the Royal Festival Hall where pre-booking is advised or alternatively there is plenty of selection in and around the Southbank, just a few yards from the coach drop-off and Royal Festival Hall.

On our way home we can marvel at London by night at Christmas with many hotels, shops and streets adorned with lights and decorations.

For the three past Christmases we have sold out fairly quickly with some people sadly missing out. Whilst I know Christmas is still some time off and not something you might want to be thinking about just yet, if you want to be sure of your place, do book early.
