Bletchley Park

September 25, 2023

Bletchley Park is a place of exceptional historical importance. It remains highly relevant to our lives today and for the future. It is the home of British codebreaking and a birthplace of modern information technology. It played a major role in World War Two, producing secret intelligence which had a direct and profound influence on the outcome of the conflict.

Over the past twenty-five years Bletchley Park has become an internationally renowned site, visited by people from around the world, which acknowledges the successes from the War and the people responsible for them. By presenting and explaining these achievements, in the very place where they occurred, Bletchley Park brings together the dramatic history of the twentieth century with the challenges we face in the twenty first in our rapidly changing and technologically complex society.

Public interest in Bletchley Park has grown enormously over the past few years and the number of visitors to Bletchley Park before the pandemic stood at over 250,000 annually.

We will leave Dorking at 8.45am giving us enough time to explore all that Bletchley Park has to offer. On arrival we will have the chance to book on one of the hour long walking guided tours of the complex.

As well as a couple of options for tea or coffee there is a café, situated in Hut 4, which serves hot food from 11.30am-2.30pm. This will be left as optional so that you can plan your day individually in the way you want – to make the most of your visit.

We first visited Bletchley Park in 2018. Since then, new huts have been opened, including one in 2019. A 12-minute immersive cinematic experience commemorating the 75th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings, this hut explains Bletchley’s secret D-Day role. In 2022 the Intelligence Factory was opened. Becoming Bletchley’s largest exhibition space, it explains how Bletchley Park’s potential as an intelligence organisation was unleashed. With so much to do and see, those that joined us before may well feel a return visit is necessary.

Leaving Bletchley Park at 4.45pm we expect to be back in Dorking at about 6.45pm, traffic depending.
