The Savill Garden & Runnymede River Cruise with a Cream Tea

Having wanted to visit The Savill Garden for some time now, we at last have our chance. Add to that a two hour return boat cruise from Runnymede, and a cream tea, and we have the makings of a very nice day.

Recognised as one of the finest woodland gardens in the country, The Savill Garden is a hidden gem in the heart of Windsor Great Park. Commissioned by George V, the Garden was created in 1932 by Eric Savill and, under the careful guidance of the Keeper of the Gardens and team of horticulturists – it is as majestic today as it was then.

With seasonal displays in beautifully themed landscaped areas, you can wander its paths, gaze at the magnificent trees, and admire its abundant variety of flowers and rare plants. You will be connecting with decades of Royal history – from the original weeping willow tree, to the most recent addition – the magnificent Rose Garden opened by Queen Elizabeth II in July 2010. 

The garden also comprises of a gift shop and plant centre as well as The Gallery Café and The Savill Garden Kitchen where you could take lunch if you wish, after enjoying the garden.

Having spent approximately 4 hours at the garden we will reboard the coach for a short transfer to the Runnymede Boathouse where we will join our 2-hour return boat cruise along the River Thames.

A cruise through the “back garden” of Windsor Castle with views of the Castle, Royal Farm and Queen Adelaide’s Cottage. The boat will pass through Old Windsor Lock and the village of Datchet, and then turns at Romney Lock. Enjoy views from the upper deck before moving to the comfortable saloon, where you are served your cream tea.

Following our cruise, upon our return to the boathouse, we will re-board the coach with a view to arriving back at the Dorking Halls at approximately 6/6.15pm.
