Harry Potter and the Cursed Child – Parts I & II

June 26, 2024

I have to start by admitting I am no Harry Potter fan. I have never read any of the books or watched any of the films. I’m not a fan of ‘fantasy’. I did, however, get to see the plays a few months ago. As a piece of theatre, I was enthralled. I found it amazing and was very keen for the second play to begin.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened at the Palace Theatre, London in 2016 going on to be nominated for a record-breaking 11 Olivier Awards, winning, a record-breaking, 9 of them! On its transfer to Broadway 2 years later, it was nominated for 10 Tony Awards, winning 6. On both occasions, it won Best Play.

As you may be aware the play is performed in two parts and the best way to see it is to watch Part 1 at a matinee performance followed by Part 2 later the same day in the evening performance. That, and the original cost to see each part, has made it a difficult proposition to put to people. I have, however, had numerous requests over the years to organise a trip and, as there is currently a very good group deal on the tickets, I think now is the right time to offer it out to everyone.

We would leave from outside the Dorking Halls at 11.30am, allowing enough time to arrive in the West End for the matinee performance. After Part 1 has finished, there would be just over 2 hours free time for people to find somewhere to eat, if they wish, or perhaps even do a little sightseeing. If there was enough interest, I would be happy to try and arrange a group meal, if people wanted me to. Part 2 starts at 7pm and brings to conclusion what is a stunning piece of theatre on very many levels. The staging, the illusion and the incidental music are all fabulous, before you even get to the quality of the cast. It really is something that you will have to see for yourself, of course, but, if you do choose to join us, I think you will be in for a very enjoyable day.
