Theatre & Dinner with Henley stop-off
September 5, 2024
With much of the original structure retained, this 18th Century Flour Mill has been converted into a renowned Dinner Theatre. Patrons enjoy a fresh home-cooked meal – with not a microwave in sight! – before watching the performance in the 215 seat air-conditioned auditorium.
Pre-dinner drinks with a view of The Thames or watching the working Waterwheel in the bar, is an added treat.
Alan Ayckbourn‘s classic comedy revolving around four married couples over the course of one chaotic evening, is a hilarious and entertaining exploration of the ups and downs of married life.
Trevor and Susannah, whose marriage is on the rocks, inflict their miseries on their nearest and dearest: three couples whose own relationships are tenuous at best. Taking place sequentially in the three beleaguered couples’ bedrooms during one endless Saturday night of co-dependence and dysfunction, beds, tempers, and domestic order are ruffled, leading all the players to a hilariously touching epiphany.
A long-running hit in London and New York the critics claimed –
‘As funny as anything he has written.’ – London Times, ‘An enormously funny evening.’ – London Observer, ‘Hilarious…. The stuff of gleeful recognition.’ – London Evening Standard
A few years ago for our Summer trip to Sonning, in an attempt to avoid heavy traffic, we started leaving earlier taking in the beautiful town of Henley-on-Thames en-route. Having proved popular ever since, we will do the same again in September 2024. Just under 30 minutes from Sonning, we will travel to Henley and have a stop-off for between 1-2 hours, traffic depending of course, before leaving in plenty of time to enjoy a pre-dinner drink in the theatre’s Waterwheel bar if we so wish. This is followed by a leisurely two course dinner which precedes the evening performance. Perfect!!
